MC was awarded £6.5m

MC was assaulted at the age of 7 weeks by his father. He suffered severe skull fractures and a brain injury which resulted in subsequent complications from a medico-legal aspect.

The investigation of a medico-legal claim failed and on 18th October 2011 the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority Tribunal which met in London awarded MC a gross sum of £6,591,484.

A significant part of that sum will be held in Trust for MC.

BE was awarded £4.9 million

BE was 11 months old when the car he was travelling in was involved in a head on collision with a coach, causing several fatalities and leaving him in need of lifelong care.

Ameer Meredith Solicitors took on the case after the client's mother had a bad experience with another solicitor, who had indicated that there would be a problem with causation and difficulty in securing a modest Interim Payment.

The first offer made by the defendants was for £3.25 million in full and final settlement. Ameer Meredith Solicitors refused to be pressurised and advised the client to reject the offer. In July 2010, the case eventually settled for around £5 million - which means BE will be able to enjoy a quality of life that seemed impossible when the case was originally taken on.

Mr Allen was awarded £2 million

Mr Allen was left severely brain damaged as a result of a delay in diagnosis and treatment of a cerebral abscess when he was admitted to Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Ameer Meredith Solicitors originally took on the case just a few days before the limitation period expired.

Addenbrooke's Hospital continually refused to accept full liability until finally, immediately prior to trial, it accepted that it was 100% blameworthy for the client's severe brain injury.

The £2 million settlement was broken down into a lump sum of £1.03 million, followed by periodical payments of £35,000 per year until December 2013, £34,000 per year between December 2013 and December 2028 and £44,477 per year from December 2028 for the rest of the client's life.

Judge Foster QC hearing the case commented that Mr Allen had been "very well advised" and stated the settlement figure was "proper and just compensation."
